Sustainability Defined ?

Sustainability is becoming more and more popular in everyday language. What exactly does it mean? It seems to have different meanings for different people.

The online Merriiam Webster dicitionary

( http://mw1.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/sustainability ) defines sustainable as:
of, relating to, or being a method of harvesting or using a resource so that the resource is not depleted or permanently damaged.

The first, and easiest, ideal to apply this to is the environment. But, what else does this cover?

It could mean sustaining your health and well being as an individual, or the health and well-being of your community in general.

For organizations (profit and not-for-profit) it may include methods for sustaining revenues and services. (Fortunately, by employing environmentally friendly practices in your everyday business, you can contribute to both areas of sustainability.)

For some it may mean sustaining your culture or society through social justice and equity.

There is so much more!
